What mattress type offers the best value for money?

In case you can’t tell, we’re big fans of memory foam mattresses!

While there are plenty of other options out there, memory foam is a great choice for pretty much everyone.

Yep, it may be a little pricier than some of the more basic mattresses available, but I honestly think it’s an investment worth making.

Memory foam gives you a comfy base for a great night’s sleep but also helps you out long-term, which just makes it even greater value for money.

The foam essentially molds itself to your body and cushions you as you sleep, meaning that your body is protected from any potentially-uncomfortable positions it twists itself into while you sleep!

If it’s your partner that’s making sleeping a bit of a nightmare for you (sorry!) memory foam is also the answer for you.

Because the foam moulds to your body and your partner’s body separately, you’re both cocooned in your own little world of comfort.

Can’t do anything about the snoring, though, sadly…

What to look for in a great value bed

Just because you’re a bargain hunter, doesn’t mean you have to suffer a mediocre bed.

There are a few things to look out for when it comes to buying a great value bed.

For me, a good mattress is hard but still comfy; has a memory foam or gel layer to help cushion and support your body and is made with a breathable fabric!

I can’t stress how important this is to me – not because I have an overheating partner but because I run so hot that even winter nights can have me waking in a sweat.

Of course, you might end up spending a little more than planned but remember that this is an investment.

Each mattress will last around 8-10 years before it gets that depressing sag in the middle that becomes some kind of black hole for socks, phones, and small children.

Think about what kind of mattress you’re after first.

  • check
What position do you sleep in?
  • check
Do you have any existing aches and pains?
  • check
    How much do you weigh?

All of these things will determine what kind of mattress you should buy, so do your research before you head to IKEA and get lost for seven hours with only meatballs to survive on. Actually, that sounds like my ideal Sunday.

Anyway – do your research! There’s no point buying an amazingly low-priced bed if it’s not going to help you sleep.

Is memory foam my best option?

Think about your mattress in the way you think about prospective partners.

I do this a lot to help me make decisions, so I hope you find it useful, too.

If only I could apply this way of thinking to actual prospective partners, I’d be looking at double beds instead of singles.

Anyway…

The hybrid

Bouncy, lets you be independent and isolate yourself if you need to; probably won’t go the distance.

Regular foam

Not totally out of your (price) league, stays quiet, never gets too hot to handle; not supportive enough.

Latex

Doesn’t make much noise, eco-friendly; doesn’t smell great and doesn’t do much to help you.

Spring

Full of life, reminds you of your previous one, in a good, familiar way; just will... not... shut... up...

Memory foam

Your mum would fall in love straight away, comfortable in any situation, knows when to stay quiet (eg. when your mum then tries to ask about future offspring); not the bounciest option but 100% the best for you long-term and will keep you happy for years to come.

See what I did there?

Of course, it depends what you’re after, but memory foam is a great all-rounder that has great short-term benefits as well as looking out for future-you.

Now, where are the men like that…
